Determining How Long Powerup Effects Should Last

Powerups are fun and effective but when overused, it can make what is supposed to be a challenging game very easy and boring.

Here we have our triple shot coming out every 3–8 seconds. When run testing the game it’s clear to me that the powerup is spawned a little too frequently. Therefore, I will end up adjusting it’s time range.

Test out your game and see how often you need or want to include a powerup. A good option also is to have in-app purchases allowing the player to grab the powerup bonus when they feel they need it.
